The Northeast continues to be affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The hard work and the willingness to move forward reflected by an already improving situation. Cold weather coming in tonight will cause many to have the need for more heating oil, gas, diesel fuel or maybe even just a blanket. This is not an easy situation by no means but it is moving in the right direction
However, according to the EIA, approximately 24% of gas stations in the New York metro area still do not have gasoline available for sale, down 3% from November 4th’s reported 27%.
Additionally, there are still supply disruptions in different areas, including pipeline scheduling problems, refinery shutdowns and terminal shut downs. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the Phillips 66 Bayway refinery in Linden, NJ is expected to resume operations in 2 to 3 weeks after electrical equipment is replaced.
As for terminals, out of the 57 terminals in the path of Hurricane Sandy, only 9 remain non-operational and the other 48 are open.
