Diesel fuel prices rose 0.3 cent to $4.135 a gallon and gas prices gained 3.1 cents to $3.878 — the 11th straight increases for both fleet fuels. The increase was modest compared to the previous 11 weeks as fleet fuel cards have seen there cost shoot up. The fuel savings that was enjoyed earlier this year has long gone away. A fleet manager or fuel manager enjoyed earlier this year when most were getting a pat on the back for just being where they were.
That won’t be the case in the coming months as diesel fuel prices will continue to make your fuel card spin. We don’t see any dramatic lowering for diesel fuel anytime soon but you never can tell.
The diesel fuel gain increase leaves it 30.2 cents over the same week last year, while gas is 27.7 cents higher. Diesel has risen 48.7 cents and gasoline 52.2 cents in the 11 gains. Monday’s diesel upturn was the smallest of the increases, followed by last week’s half-cent increase. Oil, fell $2.38 from a four-month high $99 a barrel to finish the trading day Monday at $96.62 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
