Diesel Fuel Prices Top Concerns Again!!

Diesel fuel prices making the news again. The Department of Energy reported that diesel fuel prices jumped up again another 5.3 cents to $4.157 per gallon. This is the highest diesel fuel has been since August 2008.

We have heard from several fuel card sources that they are concerned about some companies making it through these high fleet fuel prices. In the last five weeks, the price of diesel fuel has surged an over 26.3 cents per gallon.

The fuel card companies concerns come because with diesel fuel up 7% in 5 weeks puts fleet management and cash flow in real trouble for many companies.

The DOE also reported that gas price went up 13.6 cents to $3.747 per gallon. It feels to us that every week gas prices have gone up double digits on not only on gas prices but fleet credit card prices up too.

For a fuel manager this is the highest they have seen gas price since October 2012. This fleet fuel for smaller size vehicles is up; you won’t believe this up over 44 cents per gallon in 1 month. The increase fuel cost is certainly putting pressure on each fleet manager, fleet fuel budget so early in the fiscal year.

Where will it end is a good question. Crude oil is down from a few weeks ago which is a good sign that diesel fuel prices and gas prices will go down soon. With some luck and strategically sourcing your fleet fueling costs, fuel savings could be right around the corner.
