Baby It’s Cold Outside

We’re in the middle of winter and as it may be considered a mild one as far as Minnesota standards go, cold weather and freezing temps will still be around for a while. As temperatures dip from week to week you may be noticing some differences in the way your vehicle is operating.

Diesel fuel quality needs to be top of mind during these cold winter months. You should be operating with a quality “winter blend” fuel.

Cold weather fuel tips to get you through winter:

  1. Perform proper fuel tank maintenance and minimize your diesel fuel’s exposure to water. Maintenance dosages of a fuel additve is recommended to prevent water from building up in your tank and fuel.
  2. It is extremely important to have fuel filtration on your dispenser to catch any contamination that may have accumulated in your fuel tank. Make sure you are using a the right size diesel fuel filter.
  3. Periodically sample and inspect diesel fuel for contaminants and remove immediately if any are found.
  4. Be prepared with a quality “winter blend” fuel.
  5. Keep Emergency Winter Diesel Fuel Treatments on hand, just in case you need to dissolve gelled fuel in tanks or fleet fuel systems.

Winterized fuel is specially formulated to prevent wax settling, filter plugging and gelling, it includes a de-icer to help disperse water and a cetane boost for improved cold weather starting.
