Here are ten steps you should take before the next disaster happens.
1. Put Together A Plan. Create a recovery strategy that engages resources at every level. This could mean a list of procedures to take, and running disaster drills that imagine the best and worst-case scenarios.
2. Create A Reserve Fund. Your budget should cover extra drivers, trucks, and emergency and relief workers so that you’re not worrying how you’ll pay for them when disaster hits.
3. Have A Crisis Team. You should figure out who will be making decisions during a disaster, and then get that information to everyone on your supply chain.
4. Make Sure You Have Disaster Resources. Be sure to know who to call, especially if the government orders an evacuation. Your list should include FEMA and your state, local or county emergency management agencies, and the local/national chapters of the American Red Cross. You should also know what your local public radio stations are, and have a list of hotels to check for room availability.
