Diesel Exhaust Fluid

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a solution that when injected into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine lowers the harmful nitrogen-oxides that are emitted. Obviously using DEF is great for the environment since it reduces the release of pollutants but it also will create better fuel efficiency for your diesel fuel vehicles by creating higher oxygen levels in the combustion process.

Since the nitrogen-oxide emissions are being eliminated at a high rate the diesel engine can be fully optimized which results in better fuel economy. Heavy duty diesel engines using a DEF system can see up to a 5% improvement in fuel economy. Vehicles using DEF will have greater oil change intervals as well which can reduce the overall operating cost.

In 2010 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created new laws regarding emission standards which required medium and heavy duty on-road diesel vehicles to reduce the harmful emissions. As a result most new diesel vehicles today come with a DEF system.

Here at Sokolis we understand that almost all fleets use DEF to some capacity and we think it’s important to understand how it benefits the environment as well as your fleet. Touch base with us. 267-482-6155 or www.sokolisgroup.com
