The Pump – September 2013

As summer comes to an official end, there are things to look forward to. For me, fall means football. There is little better than watching college football Saturday, and your favorite pro team on Sunday, and Monday, and Thursday, and so on. It also means no more vacations and a pick-up at work. Okay, so maybe there isn’t that much to look forward to!

A little over a week ago I joined our President and newly appointed CFO in Nashville at the 19th annual OPIS Fleet Fueling Conference. We have been attending this event for years. It’s usually a good opportunity to see clients, vendors, and hopefully potential clients all in one place. I had the chance to talk to a few fleets; but it seems every year there are less and less attending. Why is this? Common sense would say this is their chance to get in front of vendors, make sure they’re up to date with the industry, and take advantage of saving on their diesel fuel.

One fleet I spoke with let me in on a little secret, and I think this goes for a lot of fleet managers out there. The higher ups at their company keep asking them to do more and more – fleet maintenance, fuel management, IFTA fuel taxes, driver recruitment, etc. The list never ends and keeps growing. How can they be expected to be experts in all of these different fields? They can’t. It creates a lack of efficiency when someone has too much to handle on their plate, especially as random as those tasks are. At the same time, when your boss asks you to do something, you don’t usually say “no”.

Well, in life (and work), sometimes you have to take risks to be successful. It’s recognizing that you’re not great at everything, and focusing on what you are great at.Sokolis is great at managing fuel programs. We have the tools, software, and people to accomplish this goal and save you money. Instead of letting a huge cost get out of control, give us a call 267-482-6159. We’ll guarantee fuel savings and satisfaction.
