The Department of Energy has forecasted that diesel fuel prices for 2013 at $4.84 a gallon. That would be great because it would be 15 cents per gallon cheaper for diesel fuel in 2013 than it was in 2012. I hate to be the person of bad news but it very common that the DOE gets their forecasts for fleet fuel prices correct. I will admit, it is no easy feat. With so many moving parts in what makes up the price of diesel fuel, nobody is ever right.
For the DOE, it always seems that their forecasts are a little rosier than others. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they are right or maybe a little bit high and our fuel cards could all get a little bit of a rest in 2013.
Gas prices have been projected at $3.43 a gallon in 2013. I totally see that happening. Let’s face it cars are getting better mpg, hybrid cars, electric and most of the world uses diesel fuel as its main goal. I see gas possibly being lower than $3.43 a gallon which would make any mixed fleet happy about its fleet fueling outlook in 2013.
